Healthy Schools Manitoba

Promoting healthy kids, schools and communities.

Healthy Schools is Manitoba’s comprehensive school health initiative intended to promote the physical, emotional and social health of students, their families, school staff and school communities.

The Healthy Schools framework is based on the premise that good health is necessary for learning. It also recognizes that schools can positively influence several of the determinants that affect healthy child, adolescent and family development.

The Healthy Schools model is based on information received from a provincial consultation held in December 2002 in Winnipeg. The model incorporates the principles of comprehensive school health and is designed to be flexible. It recognizes that the needs, issues and concerns of students, families and schools differ between communities so solutions need to be developed locally.
