Call for Success Stories

PHE Canada is looking for success stories on how Physical Education teachers have effectively worked with children with a developmental and/or behavioural disability in a physical education setting. These stories will be featured in the FMS IB handbook to provide the reader with greater insight and suggestions in fostering the development of fundamental movement skills of children with developmental and/or behavioural disabilities at a firsthand level. The deadline for submissions is December 11, 2009.

PlaySport is an educational website with all kinds of great activities designed to teach kids games by playing games!

PlaySport allows you to search for activities based on the equipment you have, the skills you want to teach, the complexity of the game or the space you have available

The Fundamental Movement Skills Series (FMS) is designed for generalist, physical education specialists and community coaches to assist in teaching fundamental motor and sport skills in an effective, fun and interactive manner.

PHE Canada provides 3 handbooks that have been designed to identify developmental information for each motor skill, provide suggestions about how to move children along the developmental continuum for each motor skill and then list activities that utilize each of the motor skills.

The Balance First™ Resource Kit is built around the idea that health is a resource for living – a way to vitalize and energize daily life. The Always Changing Program helps students in grades 5 & 6 understand that the physical and emotional changes involved with puberty are a normal part of growing up.

Vibrant FACES is an active, healthy lifestyle resource for girls in grades 7 & 8. This unique program helps young women overcome perceived barriers to participating in physical activity and sport, such as incompetence, low self-esteem, poor body image, and lack of motivation.

Once you and your students have watched specific chapters or the entire Weight of the World film, you can discuss the issues, and engage in some classroom activities found in the educational module. Then take ACTION in the fight against obesity in your school, home, and/or community by participating in the Weight of the World CHALLENGE.
